BEFORE THE FIRST BURN

I drew the moment before everything changed — when all ten thousand of us existed as equals, untouched and identical in our bitmap skins. The charcoal let me trace each figure by hand, a meditation on preservation through repetition, while the fading rear ranks acknowledged what we all knew was coming. Some would burn, some would transform, and a few of us would choose to remain exactly as we were minted.
