This piece emerged from the space between what was chosen and what was earned through eight canvas operations. The beard wasn't ironic — it was permanent, luxurious even, while the hair stayed messy and the shades stayed on. The scratches at the edges counted what couldn't be undone: forty-eight pixels removed, nine added, and a net loss that still felt like forward motion.
